Officials in Connecticut have identified a 31-year-old man drowning victim. The man, whose body was recovered in a pond after a boating accident in the Jewett City section of Griswold, had been missing since the previous night, following an accident where his boat reportedly hit the bank of a small island on the pond.
The man, identified as James Avila of Griswold, CT, apparently struck the shore on the east side of Asland Pond at about 10:30 p.m. on a weekend outing last month. It took until the next morning for rescuers to find the man's body.
Although the accident is still under investigation, officials say a friend of the man called authorities after he heard the watercraft's engine exhaust stop and then saw no sign of the man afterward.
