A young Morton, AZ youth died while swimming several yards away from the shore of Roosevelt State Park lake, reports say.
The youth, Steven Hackler, 17, reportedly went under water for an instant, came back up in a panic, called for help, went under again and never reappeared. A friend tried to rescue him but failed to find him in the water.
The Scott County Emergency Management team, along with the county's dive team and emergency personnel from Smith and Rankin counties, found Hackler's body about three hours later close to a white sand area in water approximately 10 to 12 feet deep.
Hackler was expected to be a key player in his high school baseball program next year.
