Tragic Drowning at Crossfit Games in Fort Worth

A tragic incident unfolded during the CrossFit Games on Thursday morning, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Serbian athlete, Lazar Ducic. While competing in the swimming portion of the run-swim event at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth, TX, the athlete was reported missing around 8am and later found at the scene by the Fort Worth Fire Department. The incident was witnessed by Cole Learn, a Canadian CrossFit athlete who was on the shore nearby. Learn stated that he began screaming for a lifeguard as he noticed Ducic struggling to get his head out of the water, but was unable to be rescued before going under. Ducic was pulled from the water around 10am and pronounced deceased at 10:24am according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office. The remaining events for the day have been cancelled, and the continuation of the CrossFit Games is uncertain at this time.
